Glenshee 9 Hill Race
Scottish Classic Long Race Series
Glenshee Ski Centre
Sunday 10th August 12 noon
21 miles 6000ft
The Glenshee 9 is a brand new, long hill race in 2008. As the name suggests the route will involve ascending nine Munro’s in and around the ski centre at Glenshee. Much of the route will be across grassy, firm rolling plateau which will provide the potential for fast running. The two main descents - one off Carn an Tuirc and the other at the finish off the Cairnwell are for the main part on reasonably good ground too. Most of the course avoids or skirts the snow fences and lift lines of the ski centre. In good weather the route provides lovely open mountain vistas towards the Cairngorms, Lochnagar and Beinn a’ Ghlo, with a strong chance of sighting red deer, mountain hare and ptarmigan. If the cloud is down there is the potential for challenging navigation. though there are a number of navigational “handrails” which, if followed, could keep you on course…..
Members of Braemar Mountain Rescue Team will be helping with race cover on the day and all profits will go to the team.
We hope to see you on the start line in August.
